I was surprised that this film was coming out. I thought that the first one ended on a good note and we had explored all we needed to with these characters. However, it seems that there was a need to extend the story. Usually, I like the combo of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, but I was weary of this film and the new additions of Mel Gibson and John Lithgow. However, these additions were the best part of the film.
This film dove into a deeper area then I thought it would but it did not get dragged down in these concepts. The film was able to keep its tone and mood light which helped to propel this film forward. There are many jokes that are carried over from the first film which helps to keep the overall plot loose. Being that this film doesn’t have major plot points that it needs to hit, it was one of the first times that I wasn’t trying to find a better story. I was just sitting back and enjoying the chemistry between the cast and laughing at some jokes.
Daddy’s Home 2 is a good film to just get lost in for 2 hours. However, if you are looking for any sort of story line this is not the film for you. Furthermore if you did not like the first film you will not like this one as it is more of the same. Cinema Wise gives Daddy’s Home 2 a 3 out of 5. This is one to watch but you might want to wait to rent.
