Godzilla King of the Monsters

Godzilla King of the Monsters is the sequel to the reboot of the Godzilla series. There isn’t much to these giant monster movies besides cool looking monsters and reason for beautiful CGI. Well it whiffs big time on both of these throughout.

The rush you into the story picking up 5 years after and expect you to just be attached to these characters right away. They give you no reasons to even like the characters as its really not that important throughout the film. This is unfortunate as the cast of the film is really good. Moving forward with a problem I had from the first film. We actually get to see the monsters in Godzilla King of the Monsters.

The CGI in the film looks great throughout most of the film. However, there are some spot where you can tell that things might have been rushed. Godzilla and Mothra look great, but I think they could have put a little more effort into Ghidorah as a three headed dragon in some of the close-up shots. Overall, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the films look. There really was nothing new and it was the same beats over and over again.

Godzilla King of the Monsters is an overall let down and at times seem to be a big set up for the next film. It falls short in visuals and shake plot points at best, with all your characters being stormtroopers in essence (there are a lot of them but you have not attachment to any of them). Cinema Wise gives Godzilla King of the Monsters a two out of five.
