The general movie-going audience is probably done with this franchise after being burnt by the last couple outings. The franchise as a whole has had a hard time finding what direction they want to take their property. I believe that Terminator: Dark Fate is a step in the right direction. The film takes it back to the basics, but also brings some new life to the franchise, starting with bringing back Linda Hamilton.
Terminator: Dark Fate takes a play from the Halloween franchise and picks right back up after the events of Terminator 2. Some events happen pretty early in the movie that set up changes in the film that I liked but also were not what I would have done if I was writing this story.
The acting in this film is great from the entire cast. In addition, one of the films highlights is seeing Linda Hamilton back on the big screen in the role she made so iconic. Her performance adds more layers and depth to the character. The new additions to the cast do great in bringing this story to life with the stand out being Mackenzie Davis. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back and does a fine job as his classic T-800.
Terminator: Dark Fate is a good installment to a dying franchise. However, I donβt know if it will be enough to bring the general movie audience or Terminator fans back to the theater after they have been burned so many times before. This film is one that I would recommend seeing but if you are skeptical, I would wait for it to come on your streaming service and see it there. Cinema Wise gives Terminator: Dark Fate a 2.75 out of 5.
