Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker

I had low expectations of this film after the experience I had with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I felt that there were plot points that were set up in The Force Awakens that were completely ignored and some that were actually negated. It was a big task for J.J. Abrams to come back in and for lack of a better term, correct the course of the ship. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, does not do this at all. The film is an overall disappointing film that drops the ball on this franchise.

The film is beautifully shot however, this cannot carry a 2 hour and 21-minute film. The lack of great dialogue is easily noticed in the early moments of the film. In addition, it seems to be two films with the best parts of each pulled out and stuck together to make a messy and inconsistent film.  There is a lot of fanfare that is unnecessary and pulls you out of the story. The actors do the best they can with poor script and a messy overall story. Most of the plot points set up in this film or in the previous two films never end up being answered or paying off to further the story or end it.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a 2 hour and 21-minute fan film that is not enjoyable. I would let this one pass you by in the theaters and focus on The Mandalorian for your Star Wars entertainment. Cinema Wise gives Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker a 1.75 out of 5.
